A true story

Since hand knitting is part of Icelandic culture and we all learn to knit in school when we are children, we share a certain awareness of time and love associated with knitted pieces of clothing. AS WE GROW is developed around a true story about a knitted sweater’s journey from one child to another over several years. The sweater became a part of the friendship and history of the families involved, and in a way it linked a chain of people together.

AS WE GROW is an Icelandic design company, which executes “slow fashion”. No mass production is used and only eco-friendly raw materials are chosen in the production of each garment. The pieces are simple yet luxurious and designed to grow with the child.

Buy better

Our goal is to encourage people to buy fewer and better things, to stay warm and look good with less, to take positive action to reduce clothing waste and ensure responsible consumption and production.

When we say better things, we mean things that are mindful of the environment and the community. From the beginning, we have believed in designing products that offer real value to their users. This means, offering garments that last over generations, as well as always being mindful of the environment and the community. Each AS WE GROW piece is fair trade for the benefit of all people.

Care information

We want you to enjoy your AS WE GROW garment for as long as possible. Given a little care, a piece of quality garment can last for generations.

Before you soak your AS WE GROW garments in water you should make sure you really do need to wash it. Alpaca and wool are naturally self-cleaning materials that often just need to be aired out. Think it through, a fresh breeze might do!

ALPACA & WOOL

Alpaca has a self-cleaning ability so you need to wash it less often – airing can be all that’s needed. Ideally, you should wash it as little as possible and hanging it outside and spraying it with a little mist for a day will freshen it up. It can be worn many times without washing and you can spot wash it if something has been spilled on it.

If your garment is made from quality natural fibers, pilling is in fact a sign of quality. Pilling is characteristic for woolen products and describes as small knots, which will appear while wearing. Our top tip for caring for pilling is to gently pick them off or use a handheld sweater comb and gently remove the small pills. Use short, light strokes in the same direction as the stitches and hold the knit a little stretched. Pilling will lessen with time and eventually stop altogether.

We recommend washing all wool by hand, gentle, no rubbing, squeezing or wringing and laying it flat on a towel to dry. When washing your garment by hand, make sure the water is cold and use only wool soap or shampoo. Let your garment soak in soapy water for 20 minutes, do not rub or wring and let the soap do the work for you. Change the water and let the garment soak in clean water for 20 minutes. Repeat. Lay it carefully on a towel, roll up the towel and squeeze out excess water. Shape your garment while laying it flat on a towel and let it dry. Never hang to dry.

Material

We use natural, renewable, sustainable materials that emphasize conservation and lead to environmentally sound products. Our alpaca wool is a fiber that does not come at the expense of the environment. Every stage of our production is ethical, which is very important to us.
